SAMBA: Deputy Commissioner Samba Dr. Rupesh Kumar today chaired the meeting of district level Narcotics Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee to take stock of the measures being undertaken to combat drug abuse and curb the illegal narcotics trade in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner undertook a comprehensive review of the Action Taken Report of the previous meeting, assessed the progress of various departments and discussed key interventions required to strengthen the district's anti-drug campaign.

Emphasizing the need for a result-oriented and coordinated strategy, the DC called upon all concerned departments and enforcement agencies to work in close coordination, ensuring effective implementation of preventive, enforcement and rehabilitation measures.

Taking stock of healthcare interventions, he stressed strengthening the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) at District Hospital and directed the concerned authorities to ensure effective counselling, timely treatment and adequate rehabilitation support for individuals struggling with substance abuse.

The meeting also focused on strengthening the role of educational institutions in preventing drug abuse. The DC called for regular awareness sessions and capacity-building initiatives for teachers to equip them with the knowledge and skills required to guide students towards informed and responsible choices.

Highlighting the importance of public participation, the Deputy Commissioner directed departments to intensify Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities, organise awareness programmes at the grassroots level and ensure wider community outreach.

He further underscored the need to channelise youth energy towards constructive pursuits through sports activities, educational initiatives and other positive engagement programmes, stressing that sustained awareness and active community involvement are essential to preventing substance abuse.

Reiterating the need for a united and sustained response against the drug menace, the DC called for strict monitoring of departmental initiatives, timely follow-up on decisions and strengthened coordination among all stakeholders to advance the vision of a Drug-Free Samba. Senior officers and representatives of the Health, Education, Police, Enforcement and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
