SRINAGAR: Social Welfare Department, Srinagar, through SANKALP: Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), Mission Shakti, today successfully concluded a series of Career Counselling Programmes organised across various colleges of District Srinagar under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative.

The programmes were aimed at guiding students towards informed career choices, broadening their awareness of emerging employment opportunities and encouraging skill development, higher education and entrepreneurship.

The initiative was designed to empower students with the necessary knowledge, guidance and exposure to explore diverse career pathways, professional courses, higher education opportunities, vocational training and self-employment avenues. It also sought to bridge the gap between academic learning and the evolving requirements of the employment sector, while enabling students to identify their interests, recognise their potential and make informed decisions in alignment with their abilities and aspirations.

The colleges covered under this series included Government Polytechnic for Women, Bemina; Hamid-I-Kashmiri Memorial Degree College, Eidgah; Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Hawal; Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Bemina; Amar Singh College, Gogji Bagh; and Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar.

During the interactive sessions, eminent resource persons from various departments of the University of Kashmir, sensitised students on the importance of setting realistic career goals, identifying individual strengths and making informed choices concerning their academic and professional journeys.

The resource persons deliberated upon a wide range of career opportunities across emerging employment sectors, competitive examinations, professional and skill-based courses, vocational training and entrepreneurship. Particular emphasis was laid on developing practical competencies, strengthening communication and interpersonal skills, enhancing self-confidence and continuously upgrading knowledge to remain equipped for the dynamic demands of the contemporary job market.

Students were also apprised of various scholarship opportunities, government-sponsored skill development programmes and other educational and employment-oriented initiatives, enabling them to make better use of the available resources and institutional support mechanisms.

The sessions witnessed meaningful interaction, with students actively seeking guidance on career-related concerns and exploring the diverse educational and professional avenues available to them. The initiative further emphasised the importance of ensuring equitable access to career information, counselling and guidance, particularly for young women, so that they can pursue their educational and professional aspirations with confidence and independence.

Organised under the BBBP initiative, the programmes reaffirmed the importance of investing in the education, capacity building and empowerment of young women. By encouraging informed career planning, skill enhancement and greater participation in employment and entrepreneurship, the initiative seeks to contribute towards building a generation of confident, skilled and self-reliant women.

The Social Welfare Department, Srinagar, reiterated its commitment to undertaking such focused awareness, guidance and capacity-building initiatives in collaboration with educational institutions and other stakeholders.

The series of programmes reflects the Department's continued endeavour to create an enabling environment for youth, particularly young women, by expanding access to opportunities, strengthening their capabilities and empowering them to become active contributors to the social and economic development of district Srinagar.
