JAMMU: Department of Animal Husbandry Jammu observed World Rabies Day-2024 today here at Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Talab Tillo. The event was held by organizing a Seminar to raise awareness about impact of rabies on humans and animals and to work for itâs prevention and control.
The event was graced by Dr. Waheeda Parveen, Director Animal Husbandry Jammu as chief guest, who emphasized over the need for controlling the rising cases of dog bites and to formulate prudent anti-rabies vaccination strategies for effective rabies control in the region.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Rakesh Koul, Dy. Director Research and Production said that the theme for this yearâs World Rabies Day is âBreaking Rabies Boundariesâ highlighting that One Health is not for selected few but for everyone. He further said that by breaking boundaries we can overcome geographic, socio-economic and educational barriers ensuring widespread awareness and vaccinations to control this dreadful disease.
The event featured various speakers from the department who dealt with various aspects of the rabies disease including itâs mode of spread, prevention and treatment in a comprehensive manner. The event was coordinated by Dr. Mohd. Sajjad, Extension Officer and was attended by the senior officers of the department and veterinary doctors working in hospitals and departmental diagnostic labs.
Earlier a mass anti-rabies vaccination campaign was inaugurated by Director Animal Husbandry Jammu at the Central Veterinary Hospital, Talab Tillo which saw good enthusiasm among pet-owners. Similar mass anti-rabies vaccination campaigns were also held in govt. Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries across Jammu division thus marking the observance of this important day.
