DODA: To commemorate World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2024, the Department of Microbiology Govt Medical College Doda hosted a series of awareness programmes from 18th-24th November 2024 under this year's theme, "Educate, Advocate & Act Now". The programmes/events to commemorate the week were conducted under the patronage of Principal GMC Doda Prof Dr Rakesh Bahl and under the guidance of HOD Department of Microbiology GMC Doda Dr Safia Khan.
The programmes organized during the week were aimed to raise awareness about the growing concern of antimicrobial resistance, emphasizing responsible and rational use of antimicrobials.
Speaking on the occasion, HOD Micro GMC Doda Dr Safia Khan emphasised the significance of responsible antibiotic use, stating Antimicrobial resistance is a pressing global concern, threatening our ability to treat infections effectively. As healthcare professionals, it is our responsibility to promote judicious antibiotic use and develop strategies to combat resistance.
The week featured different events held by the MBBS and Nursing students besides staff of the concerned department viz marathons, mehandi competition, poster making competition, slogan writing and rangoli making events followed by signatures for prescribed pledge, creating awareness about the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), where the staff have shown their full participation by signing the pledge on judicious use of antibiotics.
Pertinent to mention here that every year, World Antimicrobial Week is observed from November 18-24 under different themes. The theme stressed on the global community to educate stakeholders on AMR, advocate for bold commitments and take concrete actions in response to AMR.
