SRINAGAR: Police have seized two vehicles and arrested three persons for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Shopian and Awantipora. A Police party of Police Station Heerpora, seized two vehicles (Tipper & Tractor), involved in illegal extraction & transportation of minerals at Rambiara Nallah in the jurisdiction of Police Station Heerpora. The said vehicles were immediately handed over to the officials of Geology and Mining Department for necessary legal action against owners/drivers.
Meanwhile in Awantipora, a Police party from PS Pampore headed by SHO PS Pampore, arrested three persons identified as Muzafar Ahmad Hanji son of Mohd Maqbool Hanji resident of Bujibagh, Mohd Ramzan Hanji son of Gh Mohd Hanji resident of Bujibagh and Mehraj-u-Din Bhat son of Ab Aziz Bhat resident of Patalbagh for their involvement in illegal extraction of sand and damaging embankment of river Jehulm at Patalbagh Pampore.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered and further investigations have been initiated. Persons found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law. Community members are requested to share any information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with nearest police units.
