JAMMU: District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu, Mamta Rajput, organised a three-day indoor sports event at the Golden Days Day Care Centre, Roopnagar. Around 60 senior citizens participated in the event, which featured various indoor sports like table tennis, carrom and chess.
The sports event was officiated by officials deputed by the Department of Youth Services and Sports and Director Social Welfare Department, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, was the chief guest.
After the culmination of the event, a prize distribution ceremony was held, where the senior citizens were presented with mementos and consolation prizes in categories such as single and double table tennis, single and double carrom and chess. The senior citizens participated in the tournament with full zeal, fervour and enthusiasm and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the department for organising such a unique event.
The senior citizens said the event not only motivated them to engage in physical sports and recreational activities, but also helped in improving their physical and mental well-being in their post-retirement life.
The Golden Days Day Care Centre was established by the Social Welfare Department in 2019 and has since enrolled around 250 senior citizens as members. The centre provides a wide range of recreational activities, including a badminton court, table tennis, yoga room, carrom boards, musical instruments, a library, a doctor's/physiotherapist's room and a resting room. The centre is equipped with all the necessary basic facilities, such as Wi-Fi, computers, RO water filters and a pantry.
