Acting on specific information regarding poppy cultivation in the Turkwangam area of the district Shopian. Acting promptly on the information, a police team from Police Post Turkwangam reached the spot and detected illegal poppy cultivation on land belonging to Gh Mohd Lone son of Mohd Ahsan Lone resident of Turkwangam.
The illicit crop was immediately destroyed on the spot. In this regard, Case FIR No. 62/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and further investigation has been taken up. Police reiterated that the ongoing drive against drug abuse and illegal cultivation will continue with full vigour. The public has been urged to extend cooperation by sharing any information related to drug abuse or unlawful cultivation.
