SOPORE: Intensifying its campaign under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police carried out a multi-pronged drive of destruction and awareness across Sub Divisions Sopore and Rafiabad to curb the drug menace at both the source and community level.
In a major anti-cannabis operation, wild cannabis/bhang cultivation spread over several kanals was destroyed at village Matipora, Rohama, Rafiabad in the jurisdiction of Police Station Panzalla. The drive was conducted in collaboration with Revenue officials. Volunteers uprooted and destroyed the illicit crop to eliminate the source of locally available contraband and prevent its misuse by miscreants.
In connection with Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, J&K Police conducted a drug awareness programme at Darul Uloom Nadvi, Muqam Shaheed Mir in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bomai. Students and staff members actively participated in the session. Attendees were sensitized about the ill effects of drug abuse, its psychosocial impact on families, and stringent penal provisions under the NDPS Act. The youth were urged to channelize their energy into education, sports, and skill development.
Simultaneously, another awareness programme was organized at village Astanpora, Rafiabad in the jurisdiction of Police Post Fidarpora. The programme witnessed active participation of Lumberdars, Chowkidars, and other local residents. Participants were urged to remain vigilant, keep youth engaged in productive activities, and extend cooperation to Police in identifying drug peddlers and wild cannabis growth in their areas.
J&K Police reiterated that such simultaneous drives of destruction and awareness will continue across Police District Sopore to strike at the supply chain and reduce demand as envisioned under Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan. The active involvement of religious institutions, educational bodies, and community stakeholders like Lumberdars and Chowkidars is crucial for making the district drug free. J&K Police remains committed to safeguarding the youth and building a healthy, safe, and drug-free society.
