JAMMU: Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha ( JCMS ) and Akhil Bharatiya Mahajan Shiromani Sabha (ABMSS) J&K Zone, paid glowing tributes to Share-e -Duggar, Lala Hans Raj Mahajan, a roaring lion of J&K, great social reformer and an eminent Dogra personality. A glance on his life itself speaks about his pain and concern for the welfare of all the sections of the society. He was a shining star of Mahajan fraternity, one of the most respectable, dynamic person that India produced in the nineteenth century.
He was the most outstanding leader of that phase of Jammu's history .He joined army under Raja Ram Singh. Later, he was appointed as a reader of Chief Justice due to his hard work, honesty and intelligence. He was elected as Registrar also. He practiced law to serve his people, uplift the weaker sections of the SOCiety, encouraging the youth of the state, fighting against social evils like dowry, child marriage, untouchability, smoking etc and favoured widow remarriage. He adopted Khaddar "and urged people to wear "Khaddar" as well as by starting a workshop at Purani Mandi Jammu to make and dye Khaddar, thus extending helping hands in the Indian swadeshi movement.
On being unanimously elected as Member of Legislative Assembly ( MLA ), he worked hard for the Kandi belt region of Jammu, where water was an acute problem and conditions were rough. Chenab River Bridge at Akhnoor , built by Maharaja Hari Singh was the resultant outcome of Lala ji's efforts.
In this connection a function was held at Lala Hans Raj Mahajan Park. Vedic havan was performed with chanting of mantras .Later , statue of Lala ji was garlanded by prominent personalities of Mahajan and other Communities participating in the function.
Romesh Chander Gupta I President of the Sabha pledged to carry forward the path shown by Social Reformer and lauded the work by weeding out the social evils from the society, for his splendid work done for the betterment of mankind irrespective of caste, colour and creed.
Meanwhile I entire team of ABMSS J&K Zone paid floral tributes to Lala ji while celebrating his 158 th birth anniversary. The proceedings of the programme was conducted by Sanjav Mahajan ( General Secretary) .
Speaking on the occasion, Shiv Pratap Gupta, Zonal President J&K Zone, said that the social reformers like Lala Hans Raj Mahajan, leave their footprints in the chaptees of the history and provide inspiration to the future generations to follow. There are no words to explain the life and contribution of such personalities like Lala ji, he added.
