REASI: A joint mock drill on the Early Warning System (EWS), flood preparedness and rescue operations was conducted today near the Chenab River at Nambala by the NHPC Salal Power Station and District Administration Reasi.

The exercise was organized to assess the effectiveness of the Early Warning System, strengthen coordination among various departments and agencies, and enhance preparedness for flood-related emergencies in the Chenab River.

The mock drill simulated a flood emergency scenario wherein timely alerts were issued through the Early Warning System, followed by evacuation and rescue operations. Teams from the District Administration, NHPC Salal Power Station, Police, SDRF, NDRF, Health Department and other stakeholder agencies participated in the exercise.

During the drill, rescue personnel demonstrated evacuation procedures, emergency response protocols, search and rescue techniques, and coordination mechanisms to ensure swift action during flood situations. The exercise also helped evaluate response time, communication channels and operational readiness of all concerned agencies.

Speaking on the occasion, ADDC Reasi Krishan Lal said that the flood preparedness and rescue mock drill organized by NHPC in collaboration with the District Administration was an important learning exercise for all stakeholders. The drill demonstrated how various agencies would coordinate and respond in a flood-like emergency, ensuring the timely rescue and safety of citizens.

He commended the SDRF, NDRF, security forces, NHPC officials and all participating departments for their active involvement and cooperation. He added that such exercises strengthen disaster preparedness and enhance the capacity of all stakeholders to save lives and minimize risks in the event of any unforeseen situation requiring the emergency release of water from the dam. GGM NHPC Jatinder Kumar, CMO, ARTO, Tehsildar Reasi and other concerned were present.
