UDHAMPUR: Udhampur Campus, University of Jammu came alive with vibrant colors and cultural fervor as it celebrated Vasantotsav-2025, a festival marking the onset of spring. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and distinguished guests, making it a memorable occasion.

The event commenced with a Saraswati Vandana, performed by students, invoking divine blessings and setting a spiritual tone for the celebration. This was followed by Vasant Geet and a captivating dance performance by students from the Commerce and Economics departments. Several students also delivered insightful speeches on the significance of Vasant Panchami, emphasizing its cultural and seasonal importance.

The event was graced by Shri O.P. Vidyarthi, IFS, as the Chief Guest. He addressed the gathering with insightful words on the relevance of environmental conservation and sustainable growth in today’s world. He stressed upon the essence of nature and the culture, art and craft, music, and food associated with nature. He highlighted the cultural significance of the ‘Baal Basant’ flower and recited a Dogri poem on Vasant Panchami from his own book titled “Aungal Fadi Basanta Ne”.

Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector, Udhampur Campus, delivered an enlightening address on 'Vasant Beauty', highlighting the symbolic and aesthetic importance of Basant Bahar in Indian ethos, traditions and culture. He acknowledged the students for showcasing their cultural talents. During his address, he also spoke about the River Saraswati and the origin of “Vasandhura” (earth) and music and Sargam (Saat-Sur) from divine powers of Supreme God and its creations. Prof Sharma recited and explained several Sanskrit shlokas to the audience invoking the importance of knowledge, music, prosperity and divinity. He concluded by commending the efforts of students and faculty in organizing such a vibrant event.

Adding to the literary charm of the event, Dr. Jyoti Sharma, a faculty from the Commerce Department, recited a beautifully composed poem on Vasantotsav, adding to the cultural essence of the occasion. Draped in yellow apparels, students also showcased their creativity through a Vasant floral art Rangoli, beautifully designed on the floor, symbolizing prosperity, and positivity.

No celebration is complete without a touch of tradition and flavors, and Golden Sooji Halwa was served to all attendees, adding sweetness to the festive spirit. The event concluded with a tree plantation drive within the campus premises, reinforcing the commitment of Udhampur Campus towards environmental sustainability and a greener future. The event was coordinated by Ms. Janvi Sharma and Ms. Sunidhi Verma Students of M.Com & MA in Economics.
