JAMMU: JKPCC Kissan Department J&K President Bharat Priye today strongly condemned the arrest of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) President, describing the action as undemocratic, politically motivated, and a deliberate attempt to muzzle dissenting voices.

Addressing media persons, Bharat Priye said that the Congress Party has a long and proud legacy of defending democratic principles, constitutional rights, and the right to peaceful protest. He asserted that raising concerns about unemployment, price rise, agrarian distress, and public grievances is not a crime but a democratic right guaranteed under the Constitution of India.

He alleged that the arrest reflects an alarming trend of intolerance towards opposition voices, especially those representing youth and farmers. “When young leaders speak up for the unemployed, when they highlight the hardships faced by farmers and common citizens, they are met with repression instead of response. This is not the spirit of democracy,” he said.

Bharat Priye emphasized that such actions weaken democratic institutions and create an atmosphere of fear. He stated that silencing opposition leaders through arrests and intimidation tactics would not deter the Congress Party from raising people’s issues. “Democracy thrives on healthy debate and constructive criticism. Suppression of voices only strengthens our resolve to fight for justice,” he added.

He further said that the Kissan Department of JKPCC stands shoulder to shoulder with the Indian Youth Congress and all democratic forces. The department will continue to highlight farmers’ concerns, including rising input costs, lack of adequate MSP guarantees, crop losses, and shrinking rural employment opportunities.

Bharat Priye urged the authorities to immediately release the youth leader and ensure that democratic norms are upheld. He called upon civil society and all democratic-minded citizens to unite in defense of constitutional values and the fundamental rights of expression and peaceful assembly. Reiterating the party’s commitment, he said the JKPCC Kissan Department will continue its struggle for farmers’ rights, youth empowerment, and protection of democratic freedoms across Jammu & Kashmir.
