THE SILENCE OF A NEWSROOM: THE SURVIVAL FIGHT OF JK MONITOR: For sixteen years, JK Monitor has stood as an unwavering digital chronicle of Jammu and Kashmir—giving voice to the voiceless, highlighting grassroots triumphs, and upholding journalistic integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its operations as Editor-in-Chief. Yet, behind every headline stood our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan. A VISIONARY BLUEPRINT & MENTOR : Dr. Ranjan was an intellectual powerhouse—an alumnus of Netarhat, an IIT Kharagpur engineer, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. He founded JK Monitor not for clickbait, but to empower communities through authentic public discourse. He embraced me as a younger brother with warmth, trust, and continuous mentorship, guiding us through complex regional landscapes. OCTOBER 2026: A SUDDEN SILENCE: Our bedrock shifted irrevocably in October 2026 with Dr. Ranjan's sudden, tragic demise. For a real-time news portal, losing its visionary architect was catastrophic. Overnight, our newsroom lost its heartbeat, and the financial vacuum brought daily operations to an agonizing standstill. A LEGACY HANGING BY A THREAD: Today, we face a critical crossroads. Struggling to cover basic operational costs, our 24/7 live news service risks becoming merely a static digital archive—a frozen library paying tribute to Dr. Ranjan. Beyond November 2026, active real-time reporting may cease entirely. A RAY OF HOPE: We extend an urgent appeal to our readers, patrons, and well-wishers to step forward. Your support can keep our daily newsroom intact, vibrant, and alive. Otherwise, this hard-earned legacy will remain frozen in time while our living news outlet falls permanently silent. • Directs Expeditious Disposal of Pending compensation Cases
  • ‘Rs 2.05 crore disbursed, 315 relief cases addressed’

REASI: Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Ms. Nidhi Malik today chaired a review meeting to assess the status of relief distribution, restoration of road connectivity and disposal of pending cases across the district. All subdivision and sectoral officers also participated through video conferencing. Reviewing the relief measures reported from subdivisions including Katra, Mahore and Dharmari, the DC directed Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to ensure that no genuine beneficiary is left out and that damage assessments are completed in a time-bound manner.

While reviewing the Mahore subdivision, DC Malik emphasized the need to expedite pending cases in Dewal, Sabraj, Neoch and Dubry, where poor road connectivity has slowed the process. It was noted that most cases in Jamslan have already been settled. She further instructed that pending relief cases in Shikari and Sasote—affecting nearly 50 households—must also be processed without delay.

The meeting 315 have already been assessed and an amount of Rs 2.05 crores  has been disbursed to beneficiaries. The DC also reviewed the restoration of electricity and water supply. She noted that power supply has been restored in almost the entire district, including severely affected areas like Chassana and Gulabgarh. Reviewing water supply restoration, she directed the XENs to ensure full restoration where partial work remains pending.

On the status of road restoration, the DC observed that while machinery and manpower have been mobilized, frequent landslides and muck deposition continue to pose challenges. She directed the XEN PWD to fast-track the work. ACD Reasi informed that 142 roads have been reported damaged, many of which are being considered for repair under the MGNREGA scheme. The DC instructed all BDOs to furnish detailed reports of damaged roads proposed for inclusion under the scheme.

DC Malik also directed officers to expedite all pending relief and agricultural land-related cases and ensure their timely submission before the District Relief Committee, Reasi. The meeting was attended by ADDC Sukhdev Singh Samyal, ADC Rakesh Kumar, CPO Narinder Kumar, SDMs (virtually), ACR, ACD Reasi, XENs of all departments and other concerned officers.
