JAMMU: In a significant move, MLA Rajouri Iftkhar Ahmed visited the S.O.S. International office in Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, where he was warmly welcomed by the team led by Chairman Rajiv Chuni. The meeting, which was held today, focused on the long-standing issues faced by PoJK Displaced Persons, with Mr. Chuni providing a detailed briefing on the key demands.

The pressing issues discussed during the meeting included the implementation of the PoJK DPs package, which was passed by the Congress-NC Coalition Government in 2014. Other critical matters included the reservation of 8 Assembly Seats in the J&K Assembly, granting ST Status to PoJK DPs, and the formation of Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, and Poonch Scouts to guard the Line of Control.

Mr. Chuni also briefed MLA Iftkhar Ahmed on the issue of granting only nominated seats for PoJK in the J&K Assembly to non-political persons from PoJK. Furthermore, the formation of a PoJK Advisory Committee, headed by the Chief Minister, was also discussed. The committee would comprise members nominated from PoJK DPs, ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.

Another key issue discussed during the meeting was the disbursement of cash assistance to PoJK DPs. Mr. Chuni emphasized the need for immediate disbursement of the assistance, which has been pending for several years. MLA Iftkhar Ahmed assured the team that he would take up the matter with the concerned authorities and ensure that the assistance is disbursed at the earliest.

Mr. Chuni also expressed gratitude towards MLA Iftkhar Ahmed for his prompt response in addressing the concerns of Dhangri PoJK DPs, whose lands were attempted to be snatched by the J&K Forest Department. Ahmed's swift action in raising the issue in the J&K Assembly ensured that the land-snatching attempt was stopped immediately.

In his address, MLA Iftkhar Ahmed assured the members of S.O.S. International that he would raise the demands of the PoJK Displaced Persons at the appropriate level and work towards finding solutions. He also reiterated his commitment to providing support to the PoJK DPs, ensuring that his services are available to them at all times.
