JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Executive Member Raman Suri has strongly condemned former Chief Minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti for her recent remarks supporting illegal colonies and for announcing her party’s intention to introduce the Jammu and Kashmir Land Rights and Regularization Bill, 2025. He said this proposed legislation, which aims to regularize long-term encroachments on government land, reflects PDP’s intent to encourage lawlessness and create anarchy in the Union Territory.
Suri described Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks as “deeply irresponsible and politically motivated,” asserting that her encouragement of illegal settlements is tantamount to promoting a breakdown of law and order. “By opposing the government’s anti-encroachment drive and advocating legalization of unauthorized colonies, Mehbooba Mufti is virtually inviting chaos where anyone can occupy land at will — as though we still live in a lawless era,” he said.
Emphasizing that a civilized society cannot function without law, Raman Suri said that no leader should undermine established legal systems for political gain. “The PDP chief’s so-called ‘Anti-Bulldozer Bill’ does not protect the poor or the marginalized as she claims; it only serves to shield illegal occupants and reward those who have violated the law,” he stated.
Suri further said that the proposed bill exposes the PDP’s political desperation and its intent to exploit public emotions instead of working constructively for people’s welfare. “Public land belongs to every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir, not just to those who have forcibly occupied it. The government has a duty to safeguard state resources, ensure fair distribution, and promote planned development — not to legalize encroachments for political convenience,” he remarked.
The BJP leader highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union government is committed to ensuring transparent land governance, fair enforcement of law, and accountability in administration. “The government’s drive against unauthorized encroachments is not punitive but reformative — it seeks to bring order, fairness, and clarity to land use policies that benefit all sections of society,” he added.
Raman Suri also expressed concern that Mehbooba Mufti’s political statements are aimed at reviving divisive narratives that once weakened the fabric of governance in Jammu and Kashmir. “Instead of standing with the government in its mission to promote justice and discipline, PDP is trying to reverse the progress made since the abrogation of Article 370 by encouraging illegality and lawlessness,” he said.
Appealing to the people to see through the PDP’s misplaced politics, Suri urged citizens to support the government’s mission of building a law-abiding, peaceful, and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. “The drive against illegal encroachments is not against any individual or group but against illegality itself. It is about fairness, justice, and accountability — values that define modern Jammu and Kashmir,” he affirmed. Raman Suri said that the era of disorder and appeasement politics is over. “Today’s Jammu and Kashmir stands for transparency, rule of law, and inclusive development. Any attempt to bring back chaos under the guise of populist politics will be strongly opposed by people who now believe in peace, progress, and prosperity,” he stated.
