THE SILENCE OF A NEWSROOM: THE SURVIVAL FIGHT OF JK MONITOR: For sixteen years, JK Monitor has stood as an unwavering digital chronicle of Jammu and Kashmir—giving voice to the voiceless, highlighting grassroots triumphs, and upholding journalistic integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its operations as Editor-in-Chief. Yet, behind every headline stood our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan. A VISIONARY BLUEPRINT & MENTOR : Dr. Ranjan was an intellectual powerhouse—an alumnus of Netarhat, an IIT Kharagpur engineer, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. He founded JK Monitor not for clickbait, but to empower communities through authentic public discourse. He embraced me as a younger brother with warmth, trust, and continuous mentorship, guiding us through complex regional landscapes. OCTOBER 2026: A SUDDEN SILENCE: Our bedrock shifted irrevocably in October 2026 with Dr. Ranjan's sudden, tragic demise. For a real-time news portal, losing its visionary architect was catastrophic. Overnight, our newsroom lost its heartbeat, and the financial vacuum brought daily operations to an agonizing standstill. A LEGACY HANGING BY A THREAD: Today, we face a critical crossroads. Struggling to cover basic operational costs, our 24/7 live news service risks becoming merely a static digital archive—a frozen library paying tribute to Dr. Ranjan. Beyond November 2026, active real-time reporting may cease entirely. A RAY OF HOPE: We extend an urgent appeal to our readers, patrons, and well-wishers to step forward. Your support can keep our daily newsroom intact, vibrant, and alive. Otherwise, this hard-earned legacy will remain frozen in time while our living news outlet falls permanently silent. • Private Teachers’ hard work finally recognised in a historic move, says President G.N Var

SRINAGAR: The Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) has warmly welcomed the J&K Government’s Teachers’ Day 2025 announcement of the “Annual Best Private Teachers Awards”. The decision was announced today at SKICC Srinagar during the National Teachers’ Day celebrations. The awards, starting from next year, will be dedicated to recognising and honouring the services of private school teachers.

In a statement issued to the press, PSAJK President G.N. Var expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, Secretary of the School Education Department, Ram Niwas Sharma, Director School Education Kashmir, Dr. G.N. Itoo and other senior officers / officials who worked diligently to ensure that the hard work and dedication of private school teachers are duly recognised. He called it a historic and landmark step towards acknowledging the contribution of the private education sector.

Var said “The decision of the J&K Government to introduce awards for private school teachers is a welcome and visionary step. For decades, our teachers have been working tirelessly, producing lakhs of capable students, nurturing toppers and shaping professionals who are now serving in important positions across various fields. This recognition will further motivate the teaching fraternity and strengthen the role of private schools in building a bright future for J&K.”

The Association also recalled that the first Teachers’ Day celebration by private schools was organised in 2006, when the veteran educationist Late Dr. Agha Ashraf Ali was honoured with the title of “Teacher of the Teachers Award.” On the same occasion, the then Chairman Teachers Forum Abdul Qayoom Wani was awarded on behalf of Govt teachers. It was subsequently followed by Non Conventional Teacher Award which was conferred upon Senior Counsel Zaffar A. Shah for his Outstanding contribution.

“The government’s latest announcement carries forward that legacy by formally recognising the invaluable role of private school teachers. This initiative will go a long way in encouraging quality education and uplifting the private education sector in J&K,” the statement added.
