The Survival Fight of JK Monitor : For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.), who treated me like a brother and mentor. His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. JAMMU: The Department of Physics, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre, University of Jammu, successfully concluded the One-Week Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Computer-Interfaced Physics Experiments (CIPEx2026)” held from 16–20 February 2026, with a valedictory function organized in the Department.

The FDP was conceived in alignment with the objectives of NEP 2020, which emphasizes experiential learning, multidisciplinary integration, skill enhancement, and the effective use of technology in higher education. By promoting computer-interfaced experiments and digital laboratory technologies, the program contributed meaningfully toward transforming traditional laboratory practices into inquiry-driven, low-cost device SEELAB3.0, which has been developed indigenously and is well suited for the innovation-oriented learning environments envisioned under NEP 2020.

Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In her address, she appreciated the initiative of the department and emphasized the growing importance of computer-based learning, academic innovation, and the effective integration of modern technology into teaching and research. She congratulated the organizers for conducting a relevant and forward-looking academic program.

Prof. Ramni Gupta, coordinator of the FDP, presented a detailed report highlighting the objectives, outcomes, and the diverse experiments covered during the program, noting that the expert lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on sessions significantly enriched the participants' academic perspectives. Distinguished resource persons that delivered the expert lectures and conducted the Hands-on sessions during the FDP included Prof. O. S. K. S. Sastri from

Central University of Himachal Pardesh, Dr. Jithin Bhagavathi of CSpark Research, Sh. V. V. V. Satyanarayana from IUAC, New Delhi, and faculty from the University of Jammu. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Narinder Kumar, co-coordinator, who acknowledged the contributions of all stakeholders.

The valedictory function was attended by faculty members of the Department, non-teaching staff, Dr. Amit Sharma (Junior Scientist), research scholars, students, and the participants of the FDP, namely Dr. Neyaz Ali, Dr. Rawan Kumar, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, Dr. Ahsan Elahi, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Dr. Devinder Kumar Sharma, Dr. Pankaj Biswas, Dr. R.N. Patra, Dr. Suriender Singh, Mr. Vipul Saraf, Dr. Arun Sharma, Ms. Riya Sharma, Dr. Arun Banotra, Mr. Atal Bharti, Dr. Daya Ram, Ms. Mega Sharma, Dr. Vishal Bharti, Mr Ajay Kumar, Dr. Chetan Sharma, Dr. Ramesh Sachdeva and Dr. Usha Parihar

The department expressed confidence that the knowledge and practical exposure gained during the FDP would strengthen competency-based teaching, enhance research aptitude, and promote inclusive, affordable, and technology-enabled physics education in accordance with the transformative vision of NEP 2020.
