KUPWARA: The Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Suse today chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under Narco Coordination (NCORD) to review various measures put in place by different departments for curbing the drug abuse in the district. ACR Kupwara, Peerzada Mumtaz Ahmad, SDM Lolab, ACP Kupwara, Dy. SPs of Kupwara/Handwara, MS GMC, Dy. CMO, DPEO, and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
The meeting held a threadbare discussion on the agenda points and the officers presented detailed progress on the work done as per task assigned in previous meetings. The Deputy Commissioner impressed upon all officers to work in close coordination and intensify their efforts towards eradicating the drug menace from the district.
He directed the concerned officers for amplifying the anti drug awareness campaigns in all panchayats, schools and colleges. It was decided that a list of government employees will be prepared who shall undergo training on anti-drug awareness and counselling, enabling them to act as counsellors in Primary Health Centres, schools, and rural communities to effectively combat substance abuse.
The Assistant Drug Controller was directed to ensure regular inspections of all medical shops in all tehsils of the district in coordination with Police and revenue authorities. Highlighting the role of parents in safeguarding the future of their children, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized organizing monthly Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) in all government and private schools to discuss the menace of drug abuse along with other related issues.
Besides, detailed discussion was held on regular monitoring of hotspots, action taken in NDPS cases as well as functioning of Drug De-Addiction Centres. It was further impressed upon the concerned officers to fast-track the process of declaring âNasha Mukt Panchayatsâ to promote healthy competition and collective efforts among Panchayats in achieving the goal of a drug-free Kupwara district.
