KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma today chaired a meeting with stakeholder departments to review the implementation of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan in the district.

The DC emphasized the need to intensify ongoing efforts to curb the menace of drug abuse by roping in civil society, community leaders, and the youth. He directed the stakeholder departments to design activities that specifically target young people to spread awareness and promote a drug-free lifestyle.

While reviewing the outreach measures, the DC instructed the departments to ensure quality content dissemination of awareness activities along with timely uploading of data and reports on official portals.

The DC also stressed engaging Self Help Groups in awareness campaign to sensitize communities about the ill effects of substance abuse. He called for organizing awareness programmes at panchayat and village levels, as well as in schools and colleges to ensure maximum public participation and reach.

Highlighting the importance of mass awareness, the DC asked the officers to ensure proper publicity of all activities through different media platforms. He also directed Executive Officers of Municipal Committees to organize sports events to engage youth and channelize their energies in constructive pursuits.

The DC further suggested conducting marathons and other outdoor activities as part of the campaign to promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation. The meeting was attended by officers from Social Welfare, Municipalities and other line departments.
