SRINAGAR: Department of Social Welfare, SANKALP- Hub For Empowerment of Women- Mission Shakti Srinagar today organized a Sensitization Programme with the members of Self –Help groups associated with NRLM at Zila Sainik Welfare Office Srinagar.
The programme began with an overview of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) campaign by District Mission Coordinator SANKALP-HEW Mission Shakti Srinagar, Ruqaya Ashraf through a PowerPoint presentation. She said the scheme aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve the efficacy of welfare services for girls.
She also spoke on the role of front-line workers at the grassroots level. Later, Spokesperson from Kashmir University, Maleeha Gul (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Management Studies) threw light on effects of skewed sex ratio, adding that it may disturb the social balance.
She also highlighted the importance of PC&PNDT Act that it prohibits sex selection. The act was passed to prevent female foeticide and to reduce the declining the sex ratio.
