KATHUA: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, today convened a press briefing to unveil details about the much-anticipated Kathua Waterfront Project, a transformative initiative designed to enhance the city's landscape and provide vibrant recreational spaces for residents and visitors. Located along the picturesque Kathua Canal, the project is envisioned as a dynamic public space that blends leisure, fitness and social engagement.
During the briefing, Dr. Minhas highlighted the project's key features, which include dedicated tracks for cycling, jogging and leisurely walks, catering to fitness enthusiasts and families alike. Besides, a designated skating area will be established to promote active lifestyles. To enhance social and cultural engagement, the project will also feature a bustling food street and a vibrant night market, offering a mix of dining, entertainment and shopping experiences.
âThe waterfront is envisioned as a multi-purpose destination that reflects the aspirations of our people,â said Dr. Minhas. âIt will not only provide recreational opportunities but also showcase Kathuaâs potential as a thriving, modern district. We are committed to delivering a space that everyone can enjoy, from children to senior citizens.â
In a step towards sustainable development, Dr. Minhas informed that over 500 new plants will be planted across the park area to enhance its green cover and offset the removal of 15 trees during the landscaping process.
The Deputy Commissioner also announced that the allocation of vending spaces in the designated vending zone near the waterfront has been finalized. Out of 80 applications, 15 vendors have been selected, with 5 vendors placed on a waiting list. This move is expected to offer quality food options to visitors while boosting local entrepreneurship.
Besides, Dr. Minhas informed that a bridge will be constructed to connect both sides of the waterfront, ensuring seamless access and enhanced mobility within the area.
