REASI: Under the visionary leadership of Khalil Choudhary Chairman District Legal Services Authority Reasi (also Pr. District and Sessions Judge Reasi) and the guidance of Pooja Gupta, Secretary, DLSA Reasi, an awareness programme on the topic “Rights of Consumers” was organized today by the Para Legal Volunteers PLVs of TLSC, Katra at the Court Complex Katra.

Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Adv. Bhumika Rajput acted as the resource person for the programme. The programme aimed to sensitize the general public about their rights as consumers and the remedies available under the Consumer Protection Act. She elaborated on various consumer rights, including the right to safety, right to information, right to choose and right to seek redressal. She informed participants about the procedure for filing complaints before consumer forums and emphasized the importance of being vigilant against unfair trade practices.

Another awareness programme on NALSA Helpline 15100 was conducted at the Court Complex, Reasi. The programme was addressed by Shazia Punjabi and Rishab Sharma, Learned Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC).

During the session, detailed information was disseminated regarding the importance, usage and benefits of the NALSA Helpline 15100, which provides free legal aid and assistance to the general public, especially to the weaker and marginalized sections of society. The speakers highlighted that the helpline serves as an accessible platform for individuals to seek legal advice, lodge grievances and avail legal services without any cost. The participants were encouraged to make effective use of the helpline for safeguarding their legal rights.

Similarly, an awareness programme on the Right to Legal Aid was organized at Middle School Dewal Barmidar. The programme was conducted by Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of TLSC Mahore. The PLVs educated the participants about the importance of free legal aid, eligibility criteria under Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act and the procedure to avail legal services. They emphasized that legal aid is a fundamental right ensuring access to justice for all, especially for the weaker sections of society. Students and locals actively participated in the programme and were encouraged to approach Legal Services Authorities for any legal assistance.
