JAMMU: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu under the leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu inaugurated the seventh batch of the Nurturing Future Leadership Program on 24th March 2025at its permanent campus, Vedanta, MDP Centre, Jagti. Organized under the aegis of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme, Ministry of Education, Government of India, this initiative reflects IIM Jammu's commitment to academic excellence and leadership development.
This unique residential program, scheduled from 24th March to 28th March 2025, is designed to cultivate leadership capabilities among educators at various levels, creating a pool of potential leaders ready to drive generational transitions. Delivered by IIM Jammuâs faculty, the program aims to help institutions enhance their leadership potential. Participants introduced themselves and shared their reflections on the program, discussing their experiences and expectations. The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony.
Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the leadership program initiated by the Ministry of Education. He emphasized that institution building is a continuous, capital-intensive process requiring commitment beyond 9 to 6 roles. Sharing his professional journeyâfrom Public Sector Undertaking to consulting and finally academicsâhe underlined that teaching is a 24/7 responsibility and a noble profession.He stressed the need for global benchmarks and mentioned IIM Jammuâs ambitious step of pursuing three international accreditationsâAMBA, AACSB, and EFMDâsimultaneously. He urged participants to fully engage, share expectations, and make the most of the program to collectively build leadership excellence in education.
Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, reflected on the Instituteâs inspiring journey since its inception in 2016 with just 47 students. He highlighted the remarkable progress made in a short span through the launch of multiple academic programs, including dual degree offerings, and optimal utilization of available resources. Emphasizing the need to prepare students for global competition, he stressed the importance of integrating international best practices, fostering active discussions, and developing innovative models of excellence to drive the future growth of education at IIM Jammu.
Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy, IIM Jammu, highlighted the programâs focus on leadership development, real-life challenges, and team building. He also provided an overview of Executive Education and Consultancy and IIM Jammuâs journey. He emphasized the Instituteâs commitment to fostering collaborative learning environments that encourage active participation and experiential learning.
Dr. Somu Gorai, Program Director, IIM Jammu welcomed everyone and provided a brief introduction to the program and expressed gratitude to the Director and Dean for their continuous support. She outlined the objectives of the five-day program, emphasizing its focus on equipping faculty with essential leadership skills to enhance their academic journeys and foster impactful learning environments.
Present on the occasion was Dr. Gaana. J, Program Director, IIM Jammu. The seventh batch comprises of18participants from institutes across India and is fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The curriculum is structured into four key themes: leadership, communication, skill development, and recent government initiatives. Over five days, participants will engage in lectures, interactive workshops, group discussions, case studies, role-plays, and practical exercises, ensuring the active application of concepts.Following the inaugural ceremony, participants toured the instituteâs campus, gaining insights into its state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The Nurturing Future Leadership Program aligns with the Malaviya Missionâs vision of empowering educators and leaders to shape Indiaâs educational landscape, reinforcing IIM Jammuâs position as a hub for leadership and innovation.
