Thousands of political workers, journalists, and common citizens were imprisoned. This Youth Parliament is our effort to remind the youth that democracy must be defended by every generation. The sacrifices made by those who resisted the Emergency should never be forgotten,” he said.

Dr. Jitendra Singh addressed the gathering of youth with an insightful and hard-hitting speech, recalling the trauma and tyranny of the Emergency period. “The Emergency of 1975 was not just a political mishap but a blatant attack on India’s democratic soul. People were jailed without trials, newspapers were silenced, and basic freedoms were suspended. It was a period of dictatorship under the garb of democracy. The Congress indulged in dynastic politics and centralized all powers around one family. It is because of the vision and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that India today stands firmly against any such authoritarian tendencies. The youth must remain vigilant to ensure that such dark times never return,” he said.

Later, the best speakers in the Youth Parliament were felicitated by Dr. Jitendra Singh during the event. The veterans, who bore the burnt of Emergency were also felicitated for their sacrifices and the atrocities they faced at that time. Vote of thanks was given by Arun Prabhat. Proceedings were conducted by Priyanka Gupta. The programme was supported by JK network.
