DODA: Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh today chaired the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting here in the Mini Conference Hall, DC Office Complex. The meeting reviewed the ongoing drug control measures and chalk out a coordinated strategy to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking in the district.
The discussions centered on the assessment of drug prevalence, identification of hotspots of drug abuse and cultivation and an analysis of emerging trends in the district. The Committee also reviewed the action taken against the prevalence of contraband crops, whether in wild or agricultural lands. The status of PIT/NDPS cases and the implementation of the IEC campaign were also reviewed.
Further, the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility at GMC Doda and the Drug Counselling Centre at DPL Doda was evaluated. The meeting emphasized the importance of engaging religious leaders, NGOs and civil society in the campaign against drug abuse. The issue of controlling the misuse of prescription drugs was also addressed, with directions for 100% CCTV installation and computer-based billing systems at medical shops. Special focus was laid on achieving the âNasha Mukt Panchayatâ targets to make the entire district drug-free.
The meeting was attended by ADC Anil Kumar Thakur, ACD Din Mohammad Afaqi, ASP, CMO, District Social Welfare Officer, Principal GDC and officials from the departments of Health, Agriculture, Education, Social Welfare, Youth Services & Sports and Drug Control. A virtual interaction was also held with Additional Deputy Commissioners, Sub Divisional Magistrates, Block Development Officers and other concerned stakeholders. They briefed the Deputy Commissioner on awareness drives, de-addiction activities and meetings held at the sub-divisional and block levels under the NCORD mechanism.
The Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review of the progress made under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, including the status of Nasha Mukt Panchayats, destruction of cannabis crops, and enforcement actions against illegal cultivation. He directed all SDMs and BDOs to take strict steps for removing illicit cultivation from their respective areas. The Health Department was asked to regularly update the status of rehabilitation and counselling centres, particularly at GMC and DPL. The Social Welfare Department was instructed to intensify IEC activities and expand community outreach.
Additionally, the DC emphasized the vital role of religious leaders, NGOs and civil society members in spreading awareness and building a collective movement against drug abuse. He stressed the importance of ensuring that all medical shops, especially in rural areas are equipped with CCTV surveillance and computer billing to prevent the misuse of prescription drugs.
The Drug Inspector was directed to ensure 100% compliance with these measures. ADC Doda was asked to identify hotspot areas and oversee the installation of surveillance systems. Furthermore, DC Doda directed ADC Bhaderwah to organize the upcoming Blind Cricket Tournament with the theme of âNasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan,â to strengthen the campaign through sports engagement.
