ANANTNAG: In view of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, Food Safety Department (FSD), Anantnag, conducted an intensive market checking drive across various markets in the district. The inspections aimed at ensuring the availability of safe and wholesome food to the general public while also verifying compliance with good hygienic and good manufacturing practices.
The comprehensive inspections covered Fruit and Vegetable shops, Milk Vendors, Chicken and Mutton shops, and Food Business Operators (FBOs) dealing in dates and other edible items. During the enforcement drive, surveillance samples of dates were procured by the department for detailed analysis to ensure their quality and safety.
Additionally, the Food Safety team conducted an awareness drive for FBOs, emphasizing the importance of checking expiry/use-by dates on food labels. The Food Safety authorities have also cautioned the general public to ensure that the food products they purchase are properly labeled in accordance with the law.
Furthermore, the authorities assured that regular inspections will continue in the district to uphold the highest standards of food safety. FBOs were sternly warned to strictly comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, along with its Rules and Regulations, failing which strict action will be initiated against violators.
The Food Safety Department remains committed to safeguarding public health and ensuring that consumers have access to quality food items during the holy month of Ramadan and beyond.
