NEW DELHI: On the occasion of the 10th National Handloom Day on Wednesday, the Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar conferred the National Handloom Award on Sh. Fareed Ahmed Ganie. Fareed received the National Handloom Award for excellence in “Kani Paldar Shawl” weaving. 

Son of Shri Ghulam Hassan Ganie, Fareed was born on December 1st, 1984 at Batapora Kanihama in Beerwah of Budgam district, Jammu and Kashmir. He learnt the skill of traditional weaving from his father. He has been a Kani weaver for the last 19 years.
