• Felicitates Paris 2024 Paralympic silver medallist Yogesh Kathuniya at a glittering event in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Shrewsbury International School India, an iconic co-educational boarding British school, organised a grand event in New Delhi, to discuss and share about Holistic education in India and also to announce the commencement of its first academic session in August 2025. An inspiring fireside chat with Paris 2024 Paralympic silver medallist Yogesh Kathuniya was the central piece of this event which brought to the fore how the whole-person model of education is the cornerstone of British education and Indian values.

At the glittering felicitation event attended by CEOs, educationists, foreign dignitaries and sports writers, Shrewsbury International School India also felicitated Paris 2024 Paralympic silver medallist Yogesh Kathuniya for his remarkable performance in the men’s F56 discus category at the Stade de France, Paris Paralympic 2024.

The 150-acre Bhopal campus of Shrewsbury International School India will nurture future champions and well-rounded achievers in continuation of Shrewsbury UK's rich history of 472 years which has produced illustrious alumni including poets, statesmen, authors and sports icons like former England International cricketer and selector for the national team, James Tylor and England Women's Test cricketer, Warwickshire and Women's Big Bash League player Issy Wong et al.

Yogesh, whose sporting triumphs show that with training and discipline, no ambition is too great to be achieved, emphasised the value of holistic education in shaping young minds at the fireside chat during the event. He drew upon his own experiences as a sports person, and how he had to work hard to realise his full potential in a holistic way.

“Holistic education and a nurturing environment can unlock the hidden talents of every child,” Yogesh shared and added "Learning can never be one-dimensional and this is why Shrewsbury's focus on 'Whole Person' education, via extracurricular activities including sports is so admirable. I am thrilled to be here and to meet educators and visionaries who know that championing the whole individual is not just about inculcating academic excellence but sporting excellence too."

Abhishek Mohan Gupta, Founder and President of, the Board of Management at Shrewsbury International School India added, "Yogesh Kathuniya exemplifies the values of resilience, inner virtues, self-actualisation, discipline and indomitable resolve that we have cherished at Shrewsbury since 1552. As he mentioned, we are bringing to India not just a rigorous academic curriculum, but more than 20 indoor and outdoor sports; including Indoor Rowing, Scuba Diving, and Fencing for the first time in the country. Incidentally, Shrewsbury School UK also has the distinction of having the oldest cross-country club in the world and we shall foster similar sporting traditions in India. Yogesh's presence by our side as we begin this journey has been a source of great joy and pride for us."

Shrewsbury International School India has also collaborated with Trinity College London to provide diplomas in disciplines such as music and dramatics. Dominic Tomalin, the Founding Headmaster of Shrewsbury India reiterated Shrewsbury's enduring heritage of sporting excellence and said, "The institution is one of the seven recipients of a World Athletics Heritage Plaque and in India as well, we want our students to experience the all-encompassing Floreat model of 'Whole Person' model of education where sports, arts, culture and academics coalesce seamlessly. We will impart to our students the best practices of one of the oldest public schools in the UK along with the rooted wisdom of Indian value systems. We are thrilled to be able to play a part in helping India's young to realise their potential and look forward to nurturing the next generation of creative, enterprising, and innovative world citizens."
