JAMMU: The Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, today flagged off the University’s cricket team for the 21st All India Vice-Chancellors’ Cricket T-20 Tournament, scheduled to be held from November 6 to 15, 2025, at Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences ( LUVAS), Hisar (Haryana). The team will be on tour from November 4 to 16, including travel days.
The team, led by Raj Kumar Bakshi (Captain-cum-Coach) and Niranjan Singh (Vice-Captain), comprises a spirited team supported by Mohit Sharma (Manager) and Kamal Nain (Assistant Manager).
Conveying his good wishes, Prof. Rai called on the players to approach every match with determination, discipline, and true sportsmanship, carrying the University’s name with pride at the national level. He noted that such tournaments are more than contests of skill, they strengthen teamwork, encourage healthy competition, and build a sense of pride in the institution.
Among others present on the occasion included Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Prof. J.P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs; and Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, who also conveyed their encouragement and confidence in the team’s performance.
Members of the Jammu University Non-Teaching Employees Union (JUNTEU), including Dr. Rakesh Chib (President), Pankaj Gupta (General Secretary), and Gurmeet Singh (Vice President), along with other Union representatives, joined the flag off ceremony to motivate the team and extend their good wishes.
