KATRA: The School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, successfully concluded a Hands-on Training Program on Programming Fundamentals for students of Government High School, Sirah, Kakryal.The initiative, which saw participation from over 40 enthusiastic students, aimed to nurture digital awareness and introduce young learners to the fundamentals of computer programming.

Conducted once a week for a month, the sessions blended conceptual understanding with practical exposure, encouraging students to think analytically and creatively through engaging, hands-on exercises.Throughout the training, students explored real-world applications of programming, solved basic coding challenges, and demonstrated innovative thinking.

To evaluate learning outcomes and reinforce understanding, quizzes were conducted at the end of each session, helping track students’ progress and comprehension. Their eagerness to learn transformed the classroom into a dynamic space for exploration, collaboration, and active discovery.The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. Sunanda, Head of SCSE, and Dr. Rajiv, NSS Coordinator, who lauded the participants for their enthusiasm and the organizing team for their dedicated efforts.

They highlighted the significance of such community outreach initiatives in enhancing digital literacy among rural youth and motivating them to pursue technological education.The training sessions were jointly conducted by Dr. Sonika, Dr. Kamaldeep, and Dr. Sakshi Arora from the Schools of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.

Their interactive and student-centered teaching approach helped participants gain confidence in using computers and understanding basic programming logic.Technical support for the sessions was efficiently managed by Mr. Naveen Kumar, Mr. Himmat Raj, and Mr. Sahil Sharma, whose efforts ensured smooth execution of the program. NSS volunteers played a crucial role in assisting participants throughout the training on one to onebasis.

The event concluded with an interactive feedback session, during which students shared their experiences and expressed a strong desire to continue exploring computer science. This outreach initiative reflects SMVDU’s continued commitment to community development, digital literacy, and youth empowerment through knowledge- and skill-based education.
