JAMMU: On the fourth day of World AIDS Day 2024 awareness week, the Red Ribbon Club at Government SPMR College of Commerce organised a painting competition under the theme "Take the Right Step."
The event was part of a series of activities scheduled during the World AIDS Day week, aiming to foster dialogue, raise awareness, and encourage global action towards ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. The competition aimed to inspire the youth to reflect on the global impact of HIV/AIDS and a special focus was placed on how "taking the right step" translates into making positive decisions for one's health, supporting others, and advocating for an inclusive, supportive society.
Principal of the college, Dr. Rajinder Singh, interacted with the participants and encouraged them to initiate proactive steps to sensitize the vulnerable section of the society which will be the foundation for creation of healthy and wholesome society. Prof. Pawan Kumar Gupta, HoD Commerce motivated students to disseminate the concept of event among the masses. He further emphasized that we must show empathy towards those who are infected with the disease.
The Painting Competition was judged by Prof. Pawan Kumar, Prof. Ashu Manhas and Dr. Chetna Gupta. Pragati Kohli of BBA Sem 1st bagged first prize, whereas Akshita Sher of BBA sem 1st and Akhleash Singh of BBA sem 1st secured second and third position respectively. The event was organised and managed by Red Ribbon Committee members- Dr. Jagmeet Kaur (Convener), Dr. Deepak Pathania, Dr. Fayza, Dr. Madhu Bala, Prof. Binny, Dr. Roomi Rani and Ravi Kumar.
