- Says reducing flights from 60 to 30 will hurt tourism and common people
SRINAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today hit out at the Omar Abdullah-led government for reducing the number of flights to Kashmir during the winter season. In a Statement issued here, BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur said cutting flights from 60 to 30 per day shows poor planning and a lack of concern for the people.
“The Omar Abdullah government has once again proved its insensitivity towards the needs of the common people,” Thakur said. “At a time when Kashmir needs better air connectivity for tourists, business and medical travel, the government has failed to deliver.”
Thakur said the move will make travel difficult and harm the local economy. “Reducing flights in winter will isolate Kashmir and cause huge losses to the tourism sector,” he said. He added, “This government seems totally disconnected from the ground reality. Instead of making travel easier, it is making it harder for the people.”
Calling it an anti-people decision, Thakur said, “Thousands of families depend on tourism for their livelihood. Reducing flights means snatching their income during the toughest months.” He urged the government to restore all flights immediately, saying, “The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve better services, not decisions that push them into inconvenience every winter.”
