JAMMU: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu in collaboration with office of the Dean Students’ Welfare organised an exhibition cum panel discussion on the theme “Remembering the Horrors of Partition”.
The event commenced with the chanting of National Song followed by the welcome address by Head of the Department Prof. Asit Mantry who formally greeted the dignitaries and shared his reflections on the significance of the day. He shared a thought provoking message for the youth to render their services to the nation and society when needed. He stressed the words of Sri Aurobindo that “The partition is temporary and India will be united again”. He further appealed to realize the importance of the day and take a pledge towards the goal of Akhand Bharat.
Dean of Students’ Welfare, Prof. Ritu Bakshi, was also present at the event. She stirred a sense of patriotism among the students through her insightful deliberations and by sharing her personal experiences. She vividly recalled the heart-wrenching horrors of Partition emphasising the profound trauma of tragic times.
The Guests of Honour, Col. Captain Vidyasagar (Retd.) and Col. Sukhvir Mankotia also shared their personal experiences of the partition. They recounted the famine-like conditions that gripped the country and described the relentless attacks occurring in the region, highlighting the resilience of the people during that challenging time. In their address, they inspired the youth to always prioritize their country above politics, religion, or any other social barriers. Their speeches filled the audience with a deep sense of patriotic fervour.
The presidential address was delivered by Controller of Examination, Prof. Suram Singh, narrating his understanding of the pain endured by masses during the partition and expressing his related emotions in the form of a poem.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Kiran whereby she acknowledged her Gratitude to all the dignitaries, students, participants, organising team and everyone else associated with making this event a grand success. The event finally culminated with the group recitation of the National Anthem.
