DC Shopian reviews preparations at Sports Stadium Batapora

SHOPIAN: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Charandeep Singh, today visited Sports Stadium, Batapora, to review the arrangements and assess the preparations for the upcoming first-ever ‘Jashn-e-Harud’, scheduled to be held on November 7, 2026, at the venue.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner took stock of the logistical arrangements and reviewed the preparations for the smooth and successful conduct of the festival, aimed at providing a platform for showcasing local talent, art, culture and creativity.

Detailed discussions were held regarding the installation of stalls and other essential arrangements to ensure effective participation and engagement of the public. The DC emphasised the importance of active public participation and close inter-departmental coordination to ensure seamless arrangements and make the festival a grand success.

The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone; Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz; Principal, GDC Shopian, Prof. Tariq Ahmed; GM, DIC; DPO; Tehsildar Shopian; and other senior district officers.

Dr. Ranjan was a rare and noble soul—humble, compassionate, intellectually brilliant and always willing to help others. A visionary thinker, he believed in using knowledge and abilities to make a meaningful difference. His influence lives on through the people he guided, the work he inspired and the countless lives he touched.

For me, he will always be the elder brother who believed in me and guided me with affection. I will cherish his kindness and lessons forever. May his soul rest in eternal peace. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A brilliant mind who studied at Netarhat Residential School and graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur before earning his PhD from the University of Maryland, Dr. Ranjan chose to return to India and dedicate his life to teaching, research and social good.

His pioneering work in networked systems, AI, robotics and biomedical applications—especially computer-vision tools for early detection of cancer and heart disease—reflected his deep belief that advanced technology must serve humanity.

For more than 15 years at JK Monitor, he remained a loyal friend, mentor and collaborator, marked by rare humility, intellectual integrity and quiet generosity. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Priya, you will be deeply missed. Your life continues to remind us that knowledge finds its highest purpose in the service of others.
