The Survival Fight of JK Monitor: For 16 years, JK Monitor has chronicled Jammu and Kashmir with integrity. Since 2010, I have steered its newsroom alongside our visionary Founding Chairman, Dr. Priya Ranjan (IIT Kharagpur alumnus, University of Maryland Ph.D.). His tragic demise in October 2026 left a severe financial and operational vacuum. Without urgent support, our 24/7 news portal risks permanently shutting down after November 2026, remaining only as a static digital archive. We appeal to well-wishers to extend a helping hand to keep our active newsroom alive. Support Us: WhatsApp: +91-9906103001 | Email: journalistajmerwani@gmail.com

JAMMU: The Department of Economics, Central University of Jammu, organised an industrial visit to Sarveshwar Group, Bari Brahmana, Jammu, for the students of the Integrated B.Sc.–M.Sc. Economics programme.

The visit was organised to provide students with first-hand exposure to the functioning of an agro-based food-processing enterprise and to help them relate classroom concepts to practical industrial operations. It enabled them to observe the value chain through which agricultural produce is transformed from raw material into a finished, market-ready product.

During the visit, the Sarveshwar Group team familiarised students with the various stages of rice processing, beginning with the procurement and handling of raw paddy. Students observed the processes of husk removal, cleaning, sorting and grading, and were introduced to the machinery employed at different stages. The interaction highlighted the role of technology and quality-control mechanisms in ensuring product consistency, hygiene and operational efficiency.

Students also gained insights into packaging, branding, marketing and distribution. Discussions with the company team helped them understand how production decisions are aligned with consumer preferences and market requirements, and how packaging and quality assurance contribute to a product’s marketability.

The visit offered valuable economic insights into value addition, production processes, industrial organisation, economies of scale, supply-chain management and employment generation. By observing the transformation of paddy into processed and packaged rice, students gained a better understanding of the role of agro-based industries in strengthening regional economic activity and development.

Dr. Shaveta Kohli, Head of the Department acknowledges the encouragement and support of Professor Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, in promoting experiential and industry-oriented learning.

The Department further acknowledges the valuable coordination and assistance provided by Mr. Viraj Magotra, Training and Placement Officer, Central University of Jammu, and his team. Special appreciation is extended to Mr. Raushan Kumar, HR Head, Sarveshwar Group, for facilitating the visit and the interaction with the students. The Department also conveys its gratitude to the management and staff of the Bari Brahmana unit for their warm hospitality, cooperation and informative explanations of the industrial processes.

The industrial visit enriched students’ understanding of the interconnections between agriculture, industry and markets, and added an important practical dimension to their academic learning in economics. The visit was coordinated by Ms. Preeti Gupta and Dr. Vishal, faculty members of the Department of Economics, who accompanied the students throughout the industrial visit.
