JAMMU: School of Languages, Central University of Jammu in collaboration with Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh Prant, an ICSSR Sponsored Two Week Capacity Building Programme on Incorporating Bhartiya Knowledge Traditions in Teaching and Research: Perspectives, Challenges and Way Forward was inaugurated in the university campus on 20th Nov., 2024.

Dr. Rashmi Singh, IAS, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department Govt. of J&K was the chief guest and Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Central University Jammu and Prof. Geeta Singh from University of Delhi were the guests of honor and Prof. Suresh Kumar Agrawal, from Central University of Gujarat delivered the keynote address.

 In the inaugural address, the chief guest, Dr. Rashmi Singh, IAS appreciated such a timely and relevant programme being organized by the university. In her address, Dr. Singh highlighted the intersectionality and interdisciplinarity of knowledge traditions of India which is enormously profound and timeless.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sanjeev Jain shared the vision and motto of CU Jammu which resonates with the theme of this capacity building programme and underscored how CU Jammu is consistent in conducting such research and teaching. Ostensibly, we have been and are a knowledge society which has contributed so profusely to each and every section of human evolution be it material or spiritual.

Prof. Geeta Singh in her address urged the participants to think beyond the colonial vestiges and re-visit and re-imagine the rich knowledge system of Bharat in tune with contemporary needs.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Suresh Kumar Agrawal in his highly illuminating address connected various dots of Bhartiya knowledge traditions and took recourse to re-imagining and talking of communion and connections which has been there in Indian traditions and urged participants to debunk the construction of indiaas a land not only of maharajas and snake charmers but a land of Buddha, Nanak and Sankara. which is being attended by participants from different parts of the country.

In the welcome address, Prof. Vandana Sharma, Dean School of Languages and Programme Director gave an overview of the objectives of the programme and its various sessions which have been designed as a manthan leading to collaborations and transformative ideas vis-à-vis Bhartiya knowledge systems. Participants from different disciplines of Social Sciences from across the country, the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and university are participating in the two week programme. Dr. K Rajesh, Head, Department of English delivered the vote of thanks.
