JAMMU: The Department of Educational Studies at the Central University of Jammu (CUJ) inaugurates ICSSR Sponsored Two Day National Seminar on Sri Aurobindo’s Vision for Human Unity: A Bharatiya Model for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. The seminar was inaugurated with the blessings of Maa Saraswati and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The event commenced with the presidential address by Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice chancellor, Central University of Jammu.
He congratulated the Department of Educational Studies for planning and organizing the national seminar on Sri Aurobindo’s Vision for Human Unity, a much needed and relevant theme which can prove to be a torch-bearing event to offer solutions to all contemporary social issues the world is facing today. He further added that Central University of Jammu always nurtures the young and dynamic learners of 21st century with such kind of academic activities to encourage the Bharatiya Values among them in line with the NEP-2020. Prof. Jain also emphasized on the strength of Bharatiya Model of Universal brotherhood, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and its value in ensuring national and international peace specifically by enlightening the human consciousness.
Prof. Asit Mantry, Head & Convenor, Department of Educational Studies, CUJ, formally welcomed the guests and dignitaries who have joined the seminar from different parts of the country, Deans and Heads of various Departments of the University. Prof. Mantry elaborated on the need and objectives of conducting the seminar on the Philosophy of Sri Aurobindo and advocated that the solution of all the challenges faced by the world today lies in the spiritual philosophy of Sri Aurobindo. The event was also honored by the gracious presence of Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Sri Aurobindo Chair Professor, Panjab University, Sh. Rupesh Kumar Ji, Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini Sadasya, Prof. Sampadananda Mishra, Director, Centre for Human Sciences, Rishihood University.
Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Keynote Speaker of the event, emphasized on the need of Sri Aurobindo’s Philosophy in addressing the issues of cultural imperialism and western ideals of colonialism and globalization. He further elaborated on the role of educational institutions in imbibing the ideals of human unity and human ethics in order to enrich the intellectuality among the learners in Bharat. Prof. Mohanty highlighted the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in alignment with the philosophy of Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga as a unique attribute of Indian culture focusing on its importance as Bharatiya Model to promote unity and diversity alongside.
Sh. Rupesh Kumar, Chief Guest of the event, while sharing his views on the relevance of the core theme of the Seminar emphasized that India with the vision of Sri Aurobindo will definitely enlighten the whole worldas a Vishwa Guru. He further referred to the educational philosophy of Sri Aurobindo as a vital force to make humans an integral human being who can bring harmony among all living beings which is the true essence of Bharatiyata. He also discussed the need to inculcate Panch Parivartana i.e. planting trees, save water, eliminate single use plastics, swadeshi Jiwan and civic sense in our daily life.
Prof. Sampadananda Mishra, Guest of Honour, shared his thoughts on Sri Aurobindo’s Integral Yoga as Pathway to Global Harmony where he elaborated on the difference in global unity and uniformity and highlighted the role of Bharat in promoting Sri Aurobindo’s ideals of human unity. He also stated that Integral Yoga is the bridge between the inner spirit and outer world, providing the spiritual technology needed to manifest global harmony.
The event also involved the intellectual sessions- plenary sessions and technical sessions where the intellectuals from various fields shared their insights on the Philosophy of Sri Aurobindo through dialogue and the presentation of the research articles on various themes. Plenary sessions were moderated by Prof. Rajeev Rattan Sharma, Professor, Department of Education, University of Jammu, Dr. Charan Singh Kedarkhandi, Asstt. Professor, Department of English, Govt. P G College, Joshimath, Mr. Siddharth Dhiman, Addl. Secretary to Govt., Home Department, Govt. of J&K.
The seminar featured insightful discussions led by eminent scholars, who fostered vibrant interdisciplinary dialogue on applying Sri Aurobindo’s timeless principles to pressing contemporary global challenges. Participants explored how his vision of spiritual evolution and human unity could inform innovative strategies for conflict resolution, bridging cultural divides, and advancing sustainable development amid climate crises and geopolitical tensions. The first day of the seminar concluded by the formal vote of thanks by Dr. Ravail Singh. In the inaugural session of the event, four scholars from the department have been felicitated for their selection in various educational institutes in the government sector. The event was also attended by Prof. J. N. Baliya, Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dr. Kiran, Dr. Aman, Dr. Ravi Vanguri, Dr Mohan Galgotra, Dr. Yadram and other faculty members, scholars and students of the department.
