BUDGAM: Continuing its intensified campaign against drug abuse, a series of awareness programmes, pledge-taking ceremonies, educational activities and public outreach events were organised across District Budgam under the ongoing Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA).
As part of the campaign, awareness programmes were conducted in various villages of Budgam to educate the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage collective efforts towards building a healthy and drug-free society. Public participation remained encouraging during these programmes, reflecting growing awareness among the masses regarding the social and health implications of substance abuse.
At Government Degree College (GDC) Beerwah and GDC Magam, awareness activities and educational programmes under NMBA were organised to sensitise students about the dangers of drug addiction. A poster-making competition was also held at GDC Magam where students creatively expressed anti-drug messages and highlighted the importance of a drug-free society through artistic presentations.
Similarly, various awareness programmes and outreach activities were organised at different locations across Tehsil Charar-i-Sharief to spread awareness regarding the harmful consequences of drug abuse and the importance of community participation in eradicating the menace.
Pledge-taking ceremonies under Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyaan were also organised at several government offices and institutions including the Office of Chief Agriculture Officer Budgam, Office of Agriculture Extension Officer Budgam, Zonal Office Magam and Zone Zanigam. During these events, officials, staff members and participants pledged to work collectively towards eliminating drug abuse and promoting a healthy social environment.
Meanwhile, acting upon communication received through satellite imagery from the Narcotics Control Bureau regarding suspected illicit cultivation of narcotic crops in Village Wahangam, the Excise Team Budgam conducted a thorough survey and inspection of the area in coordination with the concerned Lambardar. Extensive verification of fields, farms, orchards and nearby localities was carried out.
During the drive, the Excise Team also conducted awareness activities under NMBA and sensitised local residents regarding the illicit narcotic crops and the harmful effects of drug abuse. Posters were pasted at prominent public places and pamphlets distributed among the masses to ensure wider outreach and awareness.
In addition, awareness messages highlighting the dangers of substance abuse and the need for preventive measures were also delivered during Friday sermons at various Jamia Masjids of Budgam.
