ANANTNAG: In a significant action against the cultivation of narcotic substances, Police in Anantnag have received credible information regarding the illegal cultivation of opium poppy in vegetable fields at Soaf Shali, Kokernag. Acting promptly on the information, Police Station Kokernag registered a case vide FIR No. 55/2026 and initiated an investigation into the matter.

During the course of investigation, a police team of PS Kokernag, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate and officials from the Agriculture Department, conducted a visit to the identified site. Upon inspection, the cultivation was found to be prima facie in violation of the provisions of the NDPS Act.

Samples of the crop were collected on the spot for forensic examination, while the illicit opium poppy cultivation was destroyed in the presence of the Executive Magistrate as per legal procedure.

Further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain the involvement of the persons responsible and to take appropriate legal action. J&K Police remains committed to eliminating the menace of narcotics and urges the public to share information regarding drug cultivation, trafficking, or abuse to help maintain a drug-free society.
