JAMMU: The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences, Central University of Jammu, under the patronage of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, successfully organized a workshop titled “Protecting IPR and IP Management for Start-ups” today in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC).
The IIC, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, aims to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in academic institutions by encouraging students and faculty to engage in ideation, workshops, and start-up-oriented activities that address real-world challenges.
The program commenced with Dr. Sujata Kundan, Head of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences, introducing the distinguished resource person, Prof. Balaram Ghosh from the Department of Pharmacy, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.
Prof. Balaram Ghosh delivered an insightful lecture titled “Intellectual Property Rights & Patent Filing: Special Emphasis on Pharmaceutical.” In his talk, he emphasized the critical importance of protecting intellectual property rights (IPR) and adopting effective IP management strategies, particularly for early-stage start-ups. He elaborated on key aspects such as patent filing, trademark registration, and trade secret protection, highlighting how these mechanisms help prevent infringement, enhance business valuation, and promote sustainable innovation.
The workshop witnessed active participation from around 60 attendees, including postgraduate students (M.Sc. Chemistry), research scholars, and faculty members. Notable attendees included Dr. Sujata Kundan (Head), Prof. (Dr.) Pawan Kumar, Dr. Satyanarayana Battula, Dr. K. Kanagaraj (Convener), Dr. Princy Gupta, Dr. Akshay Kumar, and Dr. Indranil Chatterjee (Co-Convener).
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. K. Kanagaraj, Associate Professor of the department, expressing gratitude to the speaker, organizers, and participants for making the workshop a success.
