JAMMU: The Department of Social Work at the Central University of Jammu organized a Rural Camp cum Educational Tour for second-semester students under its Field Work Education Programme. The six-day programme, held from March 8 to March 14, was conducted in collaboration with Manthan Sanstha, Kotri, Ajmer, Rajasthan under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof Sanjeev Jain and the Head of the Department of Social Work, Dr Nancy Mengi.

The primary objective of the camp was to provide students with practical exposure to rural development and welfare initiatives being carried out by Manthan Sanstha. The programme was conducted under the theme “Exploration of Rural Communities and Development of Cultural Sensitivity.”

During the camp, students visited several villages including Pushkar and Sambhar, where they observed and learned about initiatives related to water conservation, pasture development, self-help groups, rural handicrafts, and social awareness programmes aimed at eliminating social evils in line with constitutional values. Students also interacted with community members through group discussions to better understand grassroots-level development processes.

Founder of Manthan Sanstha Tejaram awared about the organisation its ongoing rural development projects in the rural Rajasthan. Field Work Director of the Department of Social Work, Fateh Lal Bheel, operationalised this tour with the aim of familiarizing students with real-world rural challenges and community-based solutions. The programme was supported by Assistant Professor Babita, research scholars Sumina and Muskan, and Sanjay Malakar, along with other staff members of the organisation.
