JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party has questioned the silence of Chief Minister and sports Minister of Jammu Kashmir over reported humiliating “ouster” of the “Chef de Mission” (CDM) for Jammu and Kashmir contingent from the 38th National Games underway at Uttrakhand, stated by Girdhari Lal Raina, Spokesperson, J&K BJP, and Former MLC.
Accompanied by Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Media Secretary, J&K BJP and Tilak Raj Gupta, Office Secretary, J&K BJP, Girdhari Lal Raina was addressing a Press Conference at party headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. Raina drew the attention of NC government towards reports of embarrassment for Jammu Kashmir President of the J&K Gymnastics Association (JKGA), has been apparently expelled from his position as Chef-de-Mission (CDM) for J&K at the National Games in Dehradun over allegations of misconduct.
Published reports claim that following multiple complaints, the Core Organizing Committee took swift action and removed him from his role. Deputy has now been appointed to oversee his responsibilities.
GL Raina pointed out that groupism within sports administration of J&K has intensified after the NC government took office and a number of complaints are being received on mal administration, lack of professionalism and inherent discriminatory bias against the Jammu region. This is a serious situation particularly in the backdrop of scams like that of the infamous JKCA fund swindling case still fresh in the memories of citizens of Jammu Kashmir.
People in general and parents of sports persons in particular are a worried lot and CM needs to come forward and assure them that their wards are in safe hands, Raina asserted. He further raised questions about working of Sports bodies, spending of money and hunting of talent from rural and far-flung areas of the Union Territory.
The Central government has been funding sports activity and related aspects like infrastructure liberally after 2014, Ex-MLC stressed. But there are serious complaints about the utilization of funds, posting of coaches and organizing of various tournaments and sports competitions, he added.
Sports are an important field of activity to channelize the youth power in the proper direction, he said. Unfortunately, J&K is still lagging behind in this field in spite of the support from the Centre. The NC government, Chief Minister in particular, needs to come forward and take all necessary steps to stem the rot, Raina asserted.
