JAMMU: The National Conference must organize a grand Holi festival in Kashmir to promote cultural unity, joy, and regional harmony, stated Rajni Sethi, Spokesperson, J&K BJP. Holi, the festival of colors, symbolizes unity, joy, and the victory of good over evil. Just as India embraces diversity, Jammu and Kashmir is a bouquet of many religions and cultures. Over the years, there has been a growing perception among the Hindu community of Jammu that their festivals have not been given the same importance in Kashmir. This belief has been fueled by past governmentsâ inability to ensure an equal celebration of all religious and cultural events across the state.
Now, with the National Conference (NC) in power and Omar Abdullah as the Chief Minister, there is a unique opportunity to change this perception. Omar Abdullah has always maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is equal for him, and he has vowed to respect all religions without any discrimination. However, actions speak louder than words, and this is the perfect moment for him to demonstrate his commitment to true secularism.
A grand Holi celebration in Kashmir, specifically at Nehru Park, would be a strong symbolic gesture. By organizing such an event and inviting politicians, bureaucrats, police officers, and people from all communities, the government can send a powerful message of unity and inclusivity. It would show that Jammu and Kashmir is not divided along religious lines and that every festival, irrespective of its religious origins, is celebrated with equal fervor.
Such an initiative would not only strengthen communal harmony but also reinforce the faith of the people of Jammu in the government's sincerity and impartiality. It would prove that NC values every citizen equally and is willing to take concrete steps to bridge the gap between the regions. Moreover, it would also reflect positively on the national stage, showcasing that Jammu and Kashmir is a place where all cultures are honored and respected.
This is a golden opportunity for the Omar Abdullah-led government to set an example of unity and fairness. By celebrating Holi in Kashmir with full enthusiasm, NC can demonstrate its loyalty and sincerity to the people of India and send a message that in this new era, no community will feel neglected.
