SAMBA: Women Development Cell-CASH of Government Degree College Ramgarh organized an awareness programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The event was organized under the guidance and supervision of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra and was aimed at empowering women by creating awareness about their legal rights to prevent and address sexual harassment at the workplace.
The program was coordinated by Dr. Snobar, convener of the women development cell of the college. The resource person for the session was Advocate Mehrukh Syedan- a renowned expert in criminal law, civil litigation and other legal matters.
She delivered an informative lecture on the provisions of POSH Act, 2013, its significance, and the protection it offers to women in the workplace. She highlighted the role of the Internal Complaint Cell (ICC) and Local Complaint Cell (LCC), which serve as vital platforms for addressing sexual harassment cases both within institutions and at the local level. She also highlighted the "Vishaka Guidelines" that were stipulated by the Supreme Court of India, in Vishaka and others v State of Rajasthan case in 1997, regarding sexual harassment at workplace, a landmark case which helped with giving rise to the POSH Act, 2013. She also threw light on welcome and unwelcome behaviour at the workplace.
The event concluded with a call for increased awareness and collective efforts to create a safer working environment for women. The session was attended by all the faculty members including Dr. Snobar, Prof. Sandeep Kumari, Prof. Brahm Dutt, Ashok Kumar (PTI), Dr. Shivali Panjgotra, Dr. Neeraj, Priya Sharma and Anjali.
