JAMMU: The Jammu Municipal Corporation took a decisive step toward a cleaner and healthier urban future today with the official launch of SwachhSurvekshan 2025-26 at Town Hall. The event, which commenced at 3:00 PM, saw the rollout of several key sanitation projects in the presence of Hon’ble MLA Jammu East, Shri Yudhvir Sethi, and Hon’ble MLA Bahu, Shri Vikram Randhawa, alongside Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation and Mission Director Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS).
The afternoon’s activities began with a ceremonial flag-off of a new fleet of door-to-door (D2D) waste collection vehicles. These vehicles were provided by HDFC Bank under the Parivartan Pariyojna, representing a significant contribution of ₹1 crore toward the city’s sanitation infrastructure. These units are expected to strengthen the waste management network and ensure more consistent, 100% coverage across all wards. Following the flag-off, officials introduced the Garbage Hotspot Challenge, a community-driven initiative aimed at identifying and clearing persistent waste accumulation points throughout the city.
In a move to integrate social welfare with civic duty, the event also featured a solemn drug de-addiction oath. All attendees, including senior officials and community members, pledged to keep Jammu drug-free and support the health and well-being of the youth, highlighting the corporation's holistic approach to city improvement.
As a core component of the Swachh Survekshan framework, the corporation officially launched the Citizen Feedback System today. This platform gives residents a direct way to share their views on the quality of municipal services and the overall cleanliness of the city. Through this system, people can express whether they are satisfied with daily waste collection, the maintenance and cleanliness of public and community toilets, and the efficiency of dustbin lifting in their neighborhoods. It serves as a vital tool for the public to report on whether they find the city’s facilities clean and accessible, making every citizen an active auditor of the city's progress.
To complement these technical measures with a local touch, the official Swachhata Awareness Song was premiered in the Dogri language. Sung by the renowned Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, the song is designed to connect deeply with the cultural roots of Jammu, ensuring the message of a "Swachh City" resonates in every household through the local mother tongue.
Addressing the media following the event, Commissioner JMC and Mission Director SBM Urban 2.0, Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS), shared his insights on the roadmap for the upcoming year. He emphasized that the success of SwachhSurvekshan 2025-26 relies on the synergy between upgraded infrastructure and genuine public engagement. Dr. Devansh Yadav (IAS) noted that the feedback system and the hotspot challenge are specifically designed to make sanitation a collective responsibility rather than just an administrative task.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation maintains that these initiatives are part of a broader vision to transform the city into a model of sustainability and social health. By integrating better technology with corporate partnerships, local cultural outreach, and a commitment to a drug-free society, the JMC aims to secure a leading position in the national cleanliness rankings while providing a healthier living environment for all residents.
