JAMMU: A crucial meeting was held in New Delhi today between Shagun Parihar, Member of Legislative Assembly from Kishtwar, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Communications, to discuss the urgent issue of inadequate telecom infrastructure in several remote areas of Kishtwar district.
During the meeting, the MLA highlighted the persistent lack of reliable mobile and internet connectivity in far-flung regions of the district. Particular attention was drawn to villages such as Kiyar, Kibber, and Ananthnalla in Block Dacchan, as well as Haddar (Kuntwara) in Block Dhrabshalla. Residents of these areas continue to face severe challenges due to weak or non-existent network coverage, making everyday communication extremely difficult.
Kishtwar, known for its rugged terrain and scattered habitations, has several villages located in remote mountainous regions. The absence of dependable telecom services in these areas has significantly affected the lives of local residents. During the discussion, it was emphasized that poor connectivity hampers access to emergency services, educational resources, online government services, and digital opportunities that are increasingly essential in today’s world.
MLA Shagun Parihar stressed that strengthening communication infrastructure in these remote locations is critical not only for connectivity but also for the overall socio-economic development of the region. Improved telecom services would enable residents to stay connected with the rest of the country, facilitate access to digital education, improve disaster response and emergency communication, and support development initiatives.
She urged the Union Minister to extend his support and ensure timely intervention for upgrading telecom facilities in these underserved areas. Enhancing the communication network, she noted, would play a vital role in improving governance, boosting development prospects, and elevating the quality of life for people living in the remote parts of Kishtwar district.
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised during the meeting. Assuring his attention to the matter, he stated that the issues highlighted would be examined so that the communication needs of the people in these remote regions can be addressed effectively in the near future.
The meeting reflects continued efforts by the Kishtwar MLA to bring critical infrastructure issues of the district to the attention of the central government, with the aim of ensuring that even the most remote communities remain connected and included in the country’s development journey.
