JAMMU: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu organsied an extension lecture entitled “Role of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Promoting Quality School Education in India” under the Shiksha Shashtraath series. The session commenced with a warm welcome by Head, Department of Educational Studies, Prof. Asit Mantry and Class Representatives (CRs) of B.A. B.Ed. programme.
The student namely Talib, provided a thoughtful introduction emphasizing the significance of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) in India’s educational landscape. His insights set the stage for the enlightening discourse to follow.The lecture featured an esteemed resource person, Mr.Simant Chhotaray, a dedicated Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) at JNV, Akhnoor, with significant experience in the JNV system. Mr.Chhotaray elaborated on the foundational vision of JNVs as envisioned by the Indian government to provide quality education to talented rural children, irrespective of their socio economic background.
He highlighted the key aspects of their rigorous academic programs, residential schooling environment, and their role in nurturing holistic development. Drawing from his own experiences, Mr.Chhotaray shared practical insights into how students can prepare for the teacher recruitment exam conducted by Jawahar Navodaya Samiti.
During his lecture, Mr. Chhotaray also addressed the challenges and opportunities faced by these institutions. He spoke passionately about the balanced curriculum that integrates national values, modern education, and cultural enrichment, fostering an inclusive and well-rounded education system. The lecture inspired vibrant discussions, allowing attendees to interact with Mr. Chhotaray and gain deeper insights into the role of JNVs in shaping future leaders. Students and faculty expressed their admiration for the structured and interactive format of the session.
On this occasion, Prof. Asit Mantry, conveyed his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Jammu, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, for giving freedom to organize such meaningful academics for the future teachers. He further expressed his pleasure for the resource person and acknowledged the department's ambition to continue organizing such lectures to empower students with knowledge and competencies crucial for thriving in the educational sector.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Research Scholars,Surjit Kumar Lalotra and Sanjay Kumar. They acknowledged Prof. Mantry’s support, the expertise of Mr. Chhotaray, and the active participation of students and faculty. Scholars emphasized that the department, under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, is committed to fostering an academic environment conducive to comprehensive learning and growth.
