ANANTNAG: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid chaired the District level Narco Coordination (NCORD) meeting today here at DC Office. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional Superintendent of Police, Chief Medical Officer and other senior officers. At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner stressed on the role of multiple departments including police, education, health and other departments regarding tackling the menace of drug abuse.
The NCORD meeting finalised a plan to spread awareness against drug abuse. As per the plan, drug awareness programmes shall be held across sixteen revenue villages each week till the entire district is covered. The meeting also resolved to adopt strict measures against persons involved in drug peddling. The DC said that victims of drug abuse need to be identified and rehabilitated through institutional support. He said that UT Administration is very keen to eradicate the drug menace from the UT and to chanelise the youth power towards better future. He further said that involvement of families, parents, religious leaders and awareness regarding the early signs will play a pivotal role in curbing the menace.
