JAMMU: The Department of Strategic and Regional Studies (DSRS),  University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Jammu Kashmir Study Centre (JKSC) – Jammu Chapter, organized a talk on the '25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas' today. The event featured distinguished speakers, including Dr. Ajay Sharma, Assistant Professor at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, and Dr. Jai Bhawani Singh, Assistant Professor at the Central University of Jammu.  

Col. (Retd.) Ajay Raina, a veteran of the Kargil War was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Col. Ajay Raina provided an in-depth account of the Kargil War's ground realities, detailing Pakistan's strategies and India's response. He recounted the contributions of various security agencies and underscored the crucial role of artillery and air force in the conflict. Col. Raina also addressed post-Kargil border management developments and the importance of learning from history to avoid future mistakes. 

Dr. Jai Bhawani Singh delved into the socio-political dynamics and the nature of the Pakistani state that led to the conflict with India. He emphasized the need to understand the nature of Pakistan, which according to him is a garrison state, driven by an anti-India agenda, and criticized some of the political historians who portray Jinnah as a liberal leader. 

Dr. Ajay Sharma discussed the formation and recommendations of the Kargil Review Committee, established on July 29, 1999. He highlighted the pivotal role of the Committee in reshaping India's national security framework, including the establishment of the National Security Council. Earlier Prof. Virender Koundal, Director DSRS, welcomed the speakers and highlighted the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas. He said the valiant and brave Indian soldiers scripted a saga of valour and registered heroic victory.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mohd. Monir Alam. Attendees included Advocate Harshvardhan Gupta, Secretary of JKSC; Er. Sahil Sharma, member of JKSC; Dr. Jaspal Singh Warwal, faculty members, research scholars, and students from the university.
