SHOPIAN, AWANTIPORA, KUPWARA, BARAMULLA: Continuing its sustained efforts to combat drug abuse and raise awareness among the youth, Police have organized a series of awareness programmes under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan at various locations in the valley.

In Shopian, awareness programmes were held at Govt. Degree College Shopian and various schools falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Zainapora, Keller, Police Post Wachi and Berthipora. A rally was also conducted at Berthipora as part of the campaign. These programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teaching staff and police officials.

The initiative aimed to educate young minds about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage the adoption of a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. During the sessions, speakers highlighted the dangers of drug abuse, its adverse impact on society and the legal consequences involved. In Awantipora, a series of awareness and preventive activities were conducted across Police District Awantipora under the supervision of supervisory officers of respective areas. A meeting was organized with Numberdars and Chowkidars of Khrew area, wherein participants were sensitized about their role in curbing drug abuse and identifying suspicious activities in their respective localities.

An awareness rally was organized at Gulzarpora (Tokuna) in collaboration with Govt. Model Higher Secondary School. Students, staff, and police officials actively participated in the rally, carrying anti-drug awareness banners and spreading awareness about the ill effects of drug abuse. Furthermore, an awareness programme was conducted at Boys Higher Secondary School Pampore with the participation of parents, students, and teachers, emphasizing the importance of a drug-free society. In addition, checking of chemists and druggist shops in Awantipora was carried out to ensure compliance with rules and to prevent misuse of pharmaceutical drugs.

In Kupwara, a comprehensive drug awareness programme along with a large-scale rally was conducted at Khurhama Lolab. The event witnessed enthusiastic and overwhelming participation from students, police personnel, civil society members and local citizens. The programme was organized with the primary objective of sensitizing the youth and general public about the devastating effects of drug addiction on individuals, families, and society at large.

Police officials, while addressing the gathering, expressed serious concern over the increasing trend of substance abuse and emphasized the need for collective responsibility in combating this serious social issue. A powerful awareness rally was also taken out through the main areas of Khurhama Lolab. Participants raised strong anti-drug slogans and carried placards displaying messages against drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug free lifestyle.

Students played a key role in the programme, showing great enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility towards building a drug free society. Local citizens actively supported the initiative and appreciated the efforts of the police in organizing such a meaningful and impactful programme. The event concluded with a solemn pledge by all participants to actively contribute towards eradicating drug abuse and to work collectively for ensuring peace, safety, and a healthy environment in the area.

In Baramulla, Police organized multiple awareness initiatives across the district to sensitize the public, especially the youth, about the harmful effects of narcotics. Police Drug De-Addiction Centre Baramulla organized an awareness programme at Government Middle School Drangbal. During the session, participants were educated about the ill-effects of drug abuse, preventive measures, and the importance of leading a healthy and drug-free life. Students and staff actively participated in the programme and appreciated the initiative.

Meanwhile, Police Station Sheeri organized a Nasha Mukta rally in Sheeri Market. The rally witnessed active participation from the Market Union, Government Middle School Sheeri, PHC Sheeri, and members of the local community. Participants raised slogans against drug abuse and spread awareness regarding the need to eradicate the menace from society.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to continue such awareness drives under the ongoing 100 Days Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan, with the objective of building a safer and healthier society.
